At the end of each section in module two we had to do an
exercise, one of the exercises from module two that I found useful was drawing
concept maps. A concept map is a way of putting together all of the key
elements of a subject and summarizing what you have learnt from it. At the
beginning, I started drawing very basic concept maps and eventually went on to
draw detailed ones. Moreover, when it came to hand in, my Tutor Marked
Assignment (TMA). At the end of the module I found that for revision purposes
the maps were very useful. Therefore, throughout the course I continued to
draw them for each module.
One of my first concept maps
What you can see above is a very basic concept map that I used
to list all of the key points for one of the sections in module two. It
portrays my personal view of what I have learnt and what I considered
important.
The objectives of this exercise were to enable us to summarize
a topic with the use of concept maps and be able to use this method in future
studies with the Open University (OU). A way to develop this useful tool would
be to make a more descriptive concept map, as the one below that uses colours
to represent different concepts. You could also use links instead of writing
text so that when you clicked on a certain topic you could go to a more
detailed page, describing the concept.
The
colour key is Blue
= Technology, Dark
Green = People, Orange = Companies, Purple
= Abstract concepts.
